Monsanto lança site para treinamento em dicamba

Monsanto has launched a website to provide farmers information on training sessions about the proper use of dicamba, the herbicide which has been under increased scrutiny in some states.

Ahead of the 2018 season, Monsanto said it will be providing hundreds of free in-person training sessions to reinforce the proper use of the herbicide. Dicamba herbicides, which are manufactured by Monsanto and BASF, are made for use on soybeans and cotton created by Monsanto to resist the chemical. Farmers have complained that the herbicide has drifted to areas beyond where it was sprayed, damaging crops.

Dicamba herbicides have been approved for use in 33 states as part of Monsanto”s Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System. Seven of these states, including Missouri, are requiring applicators attend state-provided trainings sessions before using the product. In the other 26 states, Monsanto and other dicamba registrants will be providing training.

Ryan Rubischko, Monsanto”s dicamba portfolio lead, said the company is seeing a “significant increase in demand” for the the company”s Ready 2 Xtend soybeans.

“As we prepare for the season, we want to remind growers and applicators that under the enhanced federal label, training is mandatory for all applicators this year,” Rubischko said. “In the 26 states where we can provide training directly as a registrant, we are already scheduling hundreds of trainings to ensure that growers have as many convenient and accessible choices as possible, and we will continue to add more training sessions throughout the application season. For the remaining states, we are making information about state-provided training easily accessible on our website.”

Monsanto reported net sales of $2.66 billion for the first quarter.
